The Link Between Interorganizational Network and Agenda SettingĀ

Research
Project Overview
This project scrutinizes the intricate dynamics of how interorganizational networks within the realm of social media influence the process of setting agendas, particularly in the sphere of adolescent mental health. This project concentrated on the intricacies of network mechanisms and how they facilitate the collaborative setting of agendas among organizations.
My Contributions
Role: Lead Researcher
Duration: 2022 - 2023
Tools: R, Python
Skills: Network analysis, content analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, structural equivalence analysis
My role as Lead Researcher encompassed a broad range of duties central to the success of this study. I was tasked with pioneering the research design that meticulously integrated advanced network analysis methodologies. This included data collection across various platforms, employing content analysis to decode intricate communication patterns, and leveraging structural equivalence analysis to interpret the data within the framework of network agenda setting. A significant part of my role also involved synthesizing the research findings to formulate strategies that would benefit interorganizational collaboration, specifically targeting entities focused on adolescent mental health.
Responsibilities
The study operated under an agile research model to meet the urgency of delivering actionable insights. I was responsible for swiftly navigating through the complex layers of data, ensuring meticulous analysis, and formulating recommendations. My objective was to drive the development of evidence-based strategies that could be immediately utilized by organizations to influence policy and advocacy efforts related to adolescent mental health.
Process
The project aimed to answer several critical questions:
1. Who are the key players in the interorganizational network concerning adolescent mental health, and what roles do they play?
2. What are the dynamics of agenda setting within these networks, and how does social media reshape these processes?
3. When do these organizations interact to set a collective agenda?
4. How are trust and structural equivalence within networks influencing the agenda setting process?
5. Why is it essential to understand these network mechanisms, and what implications do they hold for policymaking and health advocacy?
This understanding stemmed from an extensive literature review and interviews with stakeholders involved in mental health advocacy, combined with an analysis of social media interactions among organizations .
Understanding the Problem
The design of the study was rooted in a mixed-method approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative analyses. It focused on the relationships and interactions within the interorganizational network, aiming to decipher the underlying mechanisms that influence agenda setting.
Research Design
Data collection spanned across social media platforms and included organizational posts, shares, likes, and comments that pertained to adolescent mental health, offering a comprehensive dataset for analysis.
Data Collection
Data analysis was performed using network analysis tools, assessing the degree of structural equivalence and examining how trust within networks facilitated the spread of agendas.
Data Analysis
The synthesis of data analysis informed the development of strategies that fostered effective interorganizational communication and collaboration, promoting a unified approach to addressing adolescent mental health in the public sphere.
Strategy Implementation and Synthesis
The culmination of the project was a detailed report presenting the methodologies, findings, and recommendations that could be applied by organizations for strategic communication and advocacy efforts.
Report and Delivery
The study provided valuable insights into the complexities of interorganizational networks and the power of social media in agenda setting. It revealed the crucial roles of trust and structural equivalence in facilitating the spread of agendas and underscored the potential for social media to democratize the agenda setting process. Areas for future research include the exploration of network dynamics over time and the impact of technological advancements on the agenda setting process.
